Anish KAPOOR

Untitled < Untitled >

1999

Painted aluminum
197*47cm
He has been bringing out works, since around the end of 1970's, of rugged mountains and organic forms like fruit painted with bright colored pigment. Since the middle of the 1980's, however, he has been producing works which confuse our vision and make us lose the sense of distance as if we were looking into a deep well. He creates this illusion by making a round hollow on the surface of a mass of marble or the like and then by applying delusterant on it. In this work, he willingly uses blue, evoking in the audience's mind a feeling of deep spirituality and/or transcendentalism.
