Active since the 1960's, Oldenburg has been creating soft stuffed objects made of cloth and vinyl, and large monuments whose themes are taken from daily life, such as vacuum cleaners and ice cream. "Soft Saxophone, Scale A, Vinyl" questions viewers with a surprise, revealing the true essence of things by showing us a saxophone made of vinyl --a musical instrument normally made of metal-- that has lost its original function and form. He has also made other large-scale saxophones, and of different materials.
