After studying at a fine arts university, he mastered Wayang kulit (shadow plays) -CGamelan, and dance. In the 1990s, he started producing machine art by making use of electrical movement, and came into the public limelight. His works are considered to be an amalgam of the Indonesian tradition and a reflection of contemporary culture containing poignant messages full of humor and sarcasm. Aside from painting and sculpture works, he is actively engaged in performance art of various kinds. In this work, he prays for some day in the future when men and animals live together in harmony, with a becak, a traditional Indonesian means of public transportation, which used to be drawn by a horse but now is drawn by a man, turning the tables around.
