Isamu Noguchi, who studied under Brancusi, started out as a sculptor. Yet he branched out, becoming an all-round artist, whose extensive works included the designing of stage art, monuments, gardens, and parks as well as interior designs in such forms as illuminators (ie.g.paper lanterns)j and furniture.
t canbe said that the root of Noguchi's sculpture is found in his stone work. In this particular work with which he tried to bring out the true essence of things through dialogues with the natural stone, leaving both accidental and artificial effects. This was a necessary outcome of his efforts. Although it is not so big, it is one of his latest works, magnificent and distinctive in style.
