Born in Paris, she is a Venezuelan sculptor working in New York since 1950. Combining blockish masses of wood, she produces broad overview portraits, which are neither painting nor sculpture, sometimes partly by painting them with colors or drawing directly on them, and sometimes by adding objects to them. Those works made of unrelated materials and techniques suggest her extraordinary originality, having its roots in various societies with peculiar cultures and traditions. This particular work expresses the history and the mode of life with a sense of irony of good old America, taking one scene from the film "Gone with the Wind" as its theme.
