I wished to create a quiet space to encounter the art, taking an approach area from the entrance plaza leading through the garden path to the south stairs as such a unified space.
By dividing the whole area at equal intervals, planting trees according to a grid, and setting up illuminators, I could make an artificial woods. People walk through this artificial forest orderly made with only magnolia trees bearing pretty white blossoms, through the art hall to the south stairs going down a gradual slope.
For the floor material, locally obtained Sakurajima lava is used. In the entrance plaza are placed white sculptures of Physalis, widely distributed around the world since ancient times to symbolize the international character of the site, and benches designed by Emi Fukuzawa.
