< Flowers of Shangri-La > 2000 Painted GRC(glass fiber reinforced concrete), mosaicked granite 370*840*650cm |
I recently started doing open-air sculptures at various places. Among them, there are flowers, hats, pumpkins, and a large object made of glass.
This time, the main theme was the "Flowers in Shangri-La." There is a huge, phantasmal flower, which you see at the entrance to the Kirishima Open-Air Museum.
Many people including those from the art world, who have come all the way to see it, have commented on my work, saying that it is "Wonderful" or "Splendid."
While I was working on it, it was painful for me. But when I was through and saw it, I had a sense of relief, and I found the flower and its feather veins extending themselves unrestrainedly toward the sky beautiful.
I am deeply satisfied with the result of my work.
I am also grateful to those people who have cooperated with me in completing the work.
