We are holding a solo exhibition of Minami Ichida, a Kagoshima-based visual artist who takes sound as her central theme. Ichida is a singular artist who strives to harmonize sound and color. As she cannot create mental imagery*, she taps into the color blue that spreads deep within her to use as the axis of her expression and conjures images from blue soundscapes, such as the ocean and the sky.
This exhibition will show Ichida’s new works in addition to her past creative efforts, including two-dimensional works made with colored pencils and acrylic paint that evoke the image of the deep blue sea and a rhythmical installation of spheres made with PP band. We present a peaceful space where visitors can slow down and escape the busyness of daily life.
The works, which speak quietly to us, radiating a sense of presence that transcends the concepts of time and space, will seep deep into our hearts and minds.
*This is due to Aphantasia, a phenomenon in which individuals cannot create visual images in their minds.

Participants will join the artist in creating an installation of Sound Particles made with PP band.

Learn how to make star-like spheres by folding and sticking together pieces of PP band.

Participation Fee (material costs): ¥200 (Admission fee is also required to enter the museum) This workshop has ended.
■Open Studio: Visitors can see the artist set up her installation at the exhibition space.

- Born in Yokohama in 1989. Currently resides in Kagoshima Prefecture. M.F.A., Graduate School of Arts, Hiroshima City University.
