YOSHIROTTEN is an artist known for his incredible vision and science-fiction aesthetic, and for constructing worlds where different phenomena dwell. His solo exhibition Future Nature, held in Tokyo in 2018, showcased a series conceptualizing his interests in nature, the digital, space, and light. In it, he limned organic forms like mountains and rivers with smooth and metallic textures visualizing light, conjuring up a realm beyond what we can see, and expressing a vista that both records and outputs that.
This autumn, YOSHIROTTEN presents a new version of Future Nature as a huge installation that takes up Kirishima Open-Air Museum’s entire Art Hall, generating a new and truly unique landscape inspired by the grandeur of nature in Kagoshima, the artist’s home prefecture that nurtured his creativity. Shaped by its space that changes with the time of day, and its interweaving of various media and elements, from moving image to print, aluminum, screens, rocks, and Yaku cedars, the work instills viewers with fresh perspectives, and spurs the “what ifs” that run throughout YOSHIROTTEN’s work.
