The artist's wife sat as the model for this work which is embellished with the fine and graceful motives of the technique of pottery enameling. He also has produced works making use of the (thickly-coated lacquer ware with patterns carved in relief).

Born in Beijing and educated at an art school in China, he immigrated to Australia. Out of the dichotomy between Western and Chinese cultures, he found his footing in the latter. Using the traditional technique of the exquisite ceramics of Jingdezheng, he produced portraits of the present-day Chinese nation in the form of busts.
The series "China, China" attracted attention at home and abroad for its unique and critical character.
